11 Weeks Pregnant Update
Baby is a: Fig
Weight gained: 0 lbs
Total Weight gained: 2 lbs
11 Weeks Pregnant Symptoms: Low blood sugar. I think I might have had this for a while. I just assumed any yucky feeling was morning sickness. However, after further investigation, keeping my blood sugar more stabilized has tremendously helped. Without keeping “quick sugar” snacks with me such as fruit, Gatorade, or toast and jelly, I would feel so light headed with a headache and just an overall feeling of complete exhaustion with a hint of nausea. I also think I am starting to show!
Cravings: Still loving sugar and bread. For lunch, I got a chocolate chip bagel with cream cheese and a frozen mango smoothie.
Aversions: Still very hesitant on most food items but I think I am starting to be able to eat more options. Certain food smells still bug me, but I was able to eat a few normal dinners this week. Since I am getting closer to being in the second trimester, I am hoping my aversions clear up completely as they did when I was pregnant with L.
Sleep: I have been needing extra sleep because everyone in our household is under the weather.
Excited for: Our upcoming trips. We decided to splurge a little with a new baby coming and take a few trips to escape the cold and enjoy traveling with our toddler, while we only have to schedule around one nap a day. We are going first to Washington DC for Cole’s conference. L and I will spend the days exploring the museums while he is busy and then after that we are off to Florida to see extended family and enjoy the sun and warmth. I am also excited for finding out the results of Counsyl, the genetic testing we got, because we will also find out the gender but am also nervous because it could, of course, yield bad news. So, feeling very nervous but excited.
Missing: Warm weather. We live in New England and this December has been brutal. With L, we were living in Germany, which is no tropical paradise, but I could at least go on daily walks because the temperature wasn’t below freezing. Our Florida trip can not come soon enough.
Movement: No
Dr. Update: Had a check-up. As always, my appointment started with peeing in a cup. We discussed how I was feeling and my midwife assured me that it is common and normal to have low blood sugar during pregnancy and that I should listen to my cravings. We also talked about night weaning my toddler, so I could get more sleep and then she set me up with an appointment with a lactation consultant to discuss it. I received a breast exam and got to listen to baby’s heartbeat <3, which is always exciting and reassuring. My appointment ended with a blood draw because we chose to go with Counsyl, the genetic test not covered by insurance, instead of just getting a NT scan (covered by insurance). I wrote about how we came to this decision in last week’s update.
Exercise: With being sick, doing anything physical wasn’t going to happen.
Stretch Marks: No
Swelling: No
Maternity Clothing: Mainly wearing my maternity jeans from Stitch Fix because they are so comfortable. Still in normal shirts and hope to keep it that way for a while.
Labor Signs: No
Wedding Rings On: Yes
Belly Button In or Out: In
How I’m Preparing: This week we discussed if we wanted to know the gender. With the genetic prenatal testing (Counsyl), we could choose to know the gender or not when the results came back. This means in a week or so, we will know if we are having a boy or a girl. After a long discussion, we decided we did want to know the gender. It helps to narrow down a name and we would need to know if we needed to buy clothing or if L’s hand-me-downs would work. We also found it fun to share with family the first time and want to be able to do a gender reveal this time again.
Best Moment of the Week: We went to a wedding on New Year’s Eve and L was the flower girl. Thankfully, we were all feeling well by this point. Watching her walk down the aisle with her dad (who was a Groomsman) was the sweetest moment ever. It is hard for me to fathom that one day that might be her wedding. She absolutely loved the dance floor at the reception and stayed up way past her bedtime, but it was worth it.
