21 Weeks Pregnant Update
Baby is a: Banana
Weight gained: 2 lb
Total Weight gained: 16 lbs
21 Weeks Pregnant Symptoms: I have to pee. Constantly!
Cravings: I want frozen yogurt with m&ms, which is extremely healthy (not). At this point in pregnancy, baby tastes what you eat. There is a lot of evidence that suggests that what you eat from this point on will affect what foods your baby will like. Guessing I should cut the sugar down to be on the safe side.
Aversions: No aversions.
Sleep: Still going well thankfully. My only issue is I like to stay up and feel baby moving because she loves to move when I am laying still.
Excited for: Finally starting L’s first year book. I know I am way behind as she is almost 2, but I have organized her photos by month and am going to compile pictures from her first year into a book. After that I plan on doing one every year for her. I always loved looking through photo albums as a child and want to do it so they are digital but also printable. I also really want them to be organized so if she wants she can have them all.
Missing: Feeling young. I am at the point in pregnancy where I am starting to become uncomfortable. I didn’t hit this point until 8 months during my first pregnancy but this time around, I am hitting it sooner. I have heard this is very common with a second pregnancy. There’s nothing like feeling aches and pains to make you feel old.
Movement: Dad can finally feel baby moving! She is very active especially when I want to sleep. I remember L being the same way. I can’t wait for her kicks to become stronger as she grows.
Dr. Update: We had our 20 week ultrasound, which I talk about in my best moment of the week. The medical update from the ultrasound was that baby is 5 days ahead based on weight. However, they won’t change the due date for this. Baby was also in a pretzel and would not change positions so getting very good imaging of the heart was a challenge. The tech had me do a walk to try to get baby to move. After having two OBs review, I might have to go in for another.
My actual appointment with the midwife was very uneventful, which is good I guess. The biggest thing we discussed is that if I did go into labor early, I needed to have a plan for L. She recommended I call the birth center and find out the exact rules on siblings and when they can be there, so that is now on my to-do list.
Exercise: No
Stretch Marks: No
Swelling: No
Maternity Clothing: Maternity clothing but I am needing the weather to change because my jackets, which are not maternity, are very tight. I’m relying heavily on the maternity clothing I got in Week 8.
Labor Signs: No
Wedding Rings On: Yes
Belly Button In or Out: In
How I’m Preparing: Organizing and decluttering. This was something that we needed to do for a while. The room we plan to use as the nursery is currently our office and storage room. I finally went through and got rid of so much stuff we just don’t use. It felt quite fantastic to declutter. We also organized the office section so that when we need to move the office it will be easier.
As this kind of marks the beginning of starting the nursery, I have been thinking a lot about what I want to do and what I want to do that is different. I know for sure that if we buy any more furniture, it will be furniture that can grow with baby instead of just baby furniture. They really are babies for just such a short time that this will allow us to get the most out of these items. An example of this is to buy a dresser and use the top as a changing station, instead of buying a dedicated changing station.
If this is your first pregnancy, I would look into my post reviewing every product we got off our first registry and Alli’s post on preparing the house for baby. I remember I was super anxious to start on both of these the first time around. This time, we already have almost all of our baby products and so I am more focused on getting the house ready.
Best Moment of the Week: Of course, this was the ultrasound. We did our 20 week ultrasound. Baby is around 1 lb. L of course just screamed the whole time and was not into it. It was not only amazing to see how big she has gotten, but also to see her feet and her sucking her thumb. It seriously makes it feel so real. It was a relief to know everything is going well and that baby is growing.
