29 Weeks Pregnant Update
Baby is a: Butternut Squash
Weight gained: 3 lbs
Total Weight gained: 35 lbs
29 Weeks Pregnant Symptoms: Leg cramping! It is the worst. Sometimes when I try to stretch my foot or leg, my muscle gets “stuck” and it is so painful. I guess the correct term here is a charley horse. I really hope they stop soon.
Cravings: SUGAR. I want frozen yogurt, ice cream, cookies, muffins, or cake. They all sound fantastic. However, they wouldn’t help me out much so instead I am trying to eat more protein. Craving sugar during pregnancy can be a sign that you need more protein. Eating protein can also help you fall asleep.
Aversions: No aversions.
Sleep: I am able to sleep well during the night but can’t sleep in even if I am tired. Now that the academic semester is over (for new readers I teach at a university), I am going to start using my mornings to be productive around the house, so I can focus on baby’s arrival. Nesting is seriously so important! After having one baby, I see that you have this crazy urge to nest because it can make those first few months with baby so dramatically different.
Excited for: Mother’s Day! While, my little one is only 22 months and doesn’t understand any holiday, I love the fact that it is a family focused holiday. We plan on just spending the day as a family.
Missing: The baby bump is large enough now that I seem to run into it. I am missing being able to move freely. I also know, it takes time for the belly bump to disappear completely once baby arrives. I need to start on my freezer meals, so I have a good stash of healthy options once baby arrives. Seriously the best nesting activity ever because it was such a time saver and it helped me get my body back.
Movement: I am getting kicked in the ribs which can only mean one thing! Baby is finally head down. She could still turn again but I think it is a good sign. I confirmed this hunch at my appointment this week.
Dr. Update: I had a very busy appointment. I did the glucose test for gestational diabetes, which resulted in me lying on the floor with an ice pack on my head. Without that ice pack, I would have puked. I then had my appointment with the midwife, which was uneventful.
I then had a full CBC done. The results were that all is good. My iron is slightly low but still in the normal range. I also got my Rh shot since I am Rh negative, but baby could be Rh positive. If baby is Rh positive, I will have to get another shot after birth.
Now that I am in the third trimester, my appointments are every two weeks. Our next appointment is right before we fly to Oregon to see family for a week. I plan on asking about that next time.
Exercise: No
Stretch Marks: No
Swelling: No
Maternity Clothing: I am still wearing all maternity clothing but am starting to assess what I have for post-partum. Last time, I really missed the boat on this one. I had maternity clothing that was too big and my before pregnancy clothing, which was too small. I also had a newborn and no time to shop. Luckily, I found Stitch Fix, which sends you options to your door. I asked the stylist for post-partum wear that was easy to nurse in and loved it! It does have an upfront fee of $25 but you can use that fee towards your purchase. I have been using Stitch Fix for a while and always find at least one or two of the 5-6 items they send to be a keeper.
Labor Signs: No
Wedding Rings On: No. They are off for good until post-partum.
Belly Button In or Out: OUT!
How I’m Preparing: Since it’s the beginning of the third trimester, I have started to think about birth. I could have prepared better the first time. I really should have taken a birth class the first time around. I knew what types of pain management techniques I wanted to use but I didn’t know how to apply them, how my partner could help or how to switch around to different methods when one wasn’t working. Alli took a few birth classes before having N and writes about how to build a birth toolbox, which I am starting to build this time.
Best Moment of the Week: On any normal NOT pregnant week, this would never be my best moment. However, I am pregnant. I finally ordered the fabric to make baby #2 a quilt. I made one for L and really wanted to do the same for baby #2. I am going to use the same fabrics because I absolutely love owls. This also allows me to re-use a lot of decorations from L’s nursery.
